Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) / Cake Care
How far in advance do I need to place my order?
Orders and confirmations should be received at least 1 week in advance. This allows me to source ingredients and properly prepare your commission.
I haven’t heard back after submitting my order. What should I do?
If you don’t hear from me within 24 hours, please check your email’s spam or promotions folder. For orders submitted on weekends or holidays, please allow 1-2 days for a reply.
What should I do when I receive my invoice?
Please respond with confirmation and your full deposit within 2 days. If I don’t receive confirmation and payment by then, I will assume your commission is cancelled.
Can I place a rush order?
Orders made with less than a week’s notice will incur a rush fee of $75-$95, depending on availability.
What is your cancellation policy?
Orders cancelled with at least 1 week’s notice will receive a half refund. Orders cancelled less than a week in advance cannot be refunded as I’ve already blocked out my schedule and sourced materials.
I’m not used to spending this much on a cake! Why are your cakes priced this way?
I operate all aspects of this business myself and am not a traditional staffed bakery. The unique detail and intensive work that goes into my intricate style is fairly factored into each quote. Purchasing a Frosted Hag cake is an investment in the same way that purchasing an artwork is. It just has to be eaten. Final prices are determined by: date, cost of ingredients, size, and hours of labor. Hours will vary depending on scale and intricacy of each order; creating the finished product can take up to 14 hours to multiple days. Starting prices for each cake size can be found in my order form.
Where and how do I pick up my cake?
Pickup is in Lower Manhattan. Once payment is made, I will share the pickup address with you. All cakes are securely packed in a windowed box. I recommend holding the box from the bottom and traveling via car to your final destination.
Can you deliver?
Yes, delivery is available for an additional fee. Uber package/transport services may be used on cakes serving less than 30. Once the cake is out of my hands, I am not responsible for any mishandling or unsound outcome.
What if I’m running late for pickup?
Please stick to your scheduled pickup time, as it will be coordinated in advance. If you are 30 minutes late or more a fee will incur. If you need to reschedule your pick up time with more notice (at least 24 hours), please email me and I will be happy to rearrange and accommodate.
Do you offer gluten-free options?
Yes, gluten-free options are available upon request for an additional fee. Please reach out with any questions or concerns regarding food allergies.
Are the flowers on the cake edible?
No, all flowers used are non-edible and purely decorative. They are safe to be in contact with the cake but must be carefully removed before eating.
Is food coloring safe to use?
Yes, all food dyes used is safe and organic. Saturated frosting may leave a temporary residue on clothes or mouths. This residue is 100% washable and impermanent.
How should I store my cake before serving?
If the cake will not be consumed within 3 hours of pickup, store it in the refrigerator. Remove the cake from the fridge approximately 1 hour before serving to bring it to room temperature. During summer months, fridge times may need to be longer to ensure the cake remains stable.
How should I store leftover cake?
Leftover slices can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 1 week.
Slices/tiers can also be frozen for up to 1 month.
